Propeller Boss Cap Fins (PBCF) Wins Environmental Technology Award from Japan Association for Logistics and Transport

We are proud to announce that our PBCF (Propeller Boss Cap Fins) received the Award for Logistics Environmental Impact-Reducing Technology Development in the 21st Logistics Environmental Awards (Note1), as selected by the Japan Association of Logistics and Transport.

PBCF improves propeller efficiency by recovering the energy loss of the hub vortex which occurs behind the propeller (resulting in energy savings of 3% to 5% compared to an identical vessel not equipped with PBCF), thereby reducing greenhouse gas emissions by improving fuel efficiency and contributing to a reduction in shipping industry’s environmental impact.

Since its launch in 1987, PBCF has been installed in more than 3,400 ships, and the award was given in recognition of its contribution to reducing the environmental impact of the shipping industry. PBCF also reduces underwater noise, which has a negative impact on the ecosystem of whales and other marine mammals and contributes to the environmental protection of marine life.

The MOL Group continually develops and expands its environment and emission-free businesses and promotes environmental conservation in ports and at sea all over the world.
